Seaside High-Speed Internet connects five communities in north
western Richmond County
(Sydney, NS) – More than 160 homes and businesses are now able to
download information from the Internet 25 times faster than speeds
available on dial up connections in parts of north-western Richmond
County.
Seaside High-Speed, a partner in the provincial government's
Broadband for Rural Nova Scotia initiative, announced today, March
10th, that high-speed Internet is now available in the communities
of Cleveland, Grantville, Hureauville, Lower River Inhabitants, and
Kempt Road.
This new service will provide high-speed access to the Internet to
approximately 160 civic addresses at speed and costs comparable to
urban Nova Scotia.
"I'm delighted with the progress Seaside is making in providing
high-speed Internet access available," said Premier Rodney
MacDonald. "The infrastructure being put to work today is vital
for business people, students and families. Whether someone is
placing a work order, doing their homework or simply e-mailing
family photos to relatives, high-speed connections will really make
a difference.”
Seaside has been developing its broadband network since being
awarded a provincial contract in late 2007. Network construction
spans nine counties throughout north eastern Nova Scotia, from
Cumberland to Victoria counties. When complete, the network will
have the capacity to serve over 38,000 Nova Scotians previously
without high speed.
“I am proud to be a partner in this wonderful project,” said
Irving Schwartz, President of Seaside Communications. “Despite the
hard winter being experienced this year, Seaside is steadily moving
forward. The diligence of our staff, the cooperation of all levels
of government and of those waiting for high speed, is incredible.”
This broadband service is made available under the provincial
government's Broadband for Rural Nova Scotia initiative. When
completed by the end of 2009, the entire province will have high
speed Internet access, making Nova Scotia one of the most connected
jurisdictions in North America. This will give our schools,
businesses and families the opportunity to connect and compete
worldwide. Funding partners in this project are the Province of Nova
Scotia, the Government of Canada and Seaside High-Speed.
Seaside’s customer service and installation teams are ready to
help residential and business customers take full advantage of high
speed. Please call 1 888-965-5511 or visit www.seasidehighspeed.com
